We spoke to Estelle Kelly this week, owner of Desire to Retire, to discuss all things yoga, business and life during/post lock down.
While producing a podcast series about retirement during the 2020 lockdown I realized I had a strong desire to assist people transitioning from full time paid work, feeling stuck in a groove, to have a more flexible way of living. It was a reflection of my own experience.
How did Desire to Retire get started?
Desire to Retire began as a means of providing a personalized support service to senior nurturing professionals who are wondering about their Next Stage of Life. Teachers, Social Workers and Health workers are an example of nurturing professionals. After many years of working, looking after other people’s needs and not always taking time to look after their own needs, nurturing professionals may be feeling a little stuck as to what is Next for them. Desire to Retire assists clients to clarify and plan to turn their Next Stage of Life into reality.

Shopping local means I have a stronger connection to the traders and service providers who are based in my neighborhood. I value being able to make face to face connections and maintain the relationship.
What does shopping local mean to you?
Shopping local means I have a stronger connection to the traders and service providers who are based in my neighborhood. I value being able to make face to face connections and maintain the relationship. The connection becomes more than a commercial transaction. Also, as a fifth generation Australian I like to support Australian products and businesses especially when they are provided locally. If we all support local businesses, our neighborhood flourishes.
Who are your favourite local businesses?
Bin3 Café on Belmore Road is one of my favorite businesses in my neighborhood. It is a place to meet friends regularly to freely chat about all aspects of life. The family run business has a warm welcoming atmosphere. I like the fact the staff are a mixture of young and older family members.
Post lockdown is a time of immense opportunity. It is a time to navigate and create a new normal. Despite the uncertainty we all live with we have the freedom to create change for the better.
What are you most looking forward to in life post lock down?
Post lockdown is a time of immense opportunity. It is a time to navigate and create a new normal. Despite the uncertainty we all live with we have the freedom to create change for the better. I am a member of a local Community Service club, the Rotary Club of North Balwyn, and look forward to assisting community members who need a helping hand. I also look forward to assisting my clients transform their lives to a better future.
